Here it is quick and dirty if you didn't want to read that article. GDDR3 is the best type of ram. This for my Graphic Cards. GDDR3 is only offered towards 6600gt and above. faster Ram Basically.

DDR is the original Double Data Rate RAM, Cos in 166/233/333 and 400 MHZ Varieties, was used on GFX Cards such as Radeon 8500, DDR2 Is the next gen, comes in Varying speeds from 500Mhz to 800Mhz, and is used on AGP GFX Cards from the Radeon 9600 and above... DDR3 is the NEWEST and Fastest, Comes in speeds from 600Mhz to 2GHZ and is used on PCI-Express GFX Cards...
Its just the 'Version' of DDR that the card is using... DDR/DDR2 is also used as main PC RAM too, not just GFX Ram..
The reason you wont find DDR3 on AGP Cards is cause the AGP Bus can only handle 800mhz top speed (AGP 8x) - some cards DO have DDR3 and are AGP, but they will be Under Clocked to about 750-800Mhz, and not the full 1.5Ghz+ which the PCI-e Equivelant of the card(s) will have...
Hope this helps
